Convert CIBC statements to Excel
CIBC prints the merchant on a second line for card purchases, and generic converters either drop it or create a second row with no amount. Statements without a year on each date also sort wrongly once several months are combined in one spreadsheet.

About CIBC statement PDFs
- CIBC statements are downloaded as PDF from CIBC Online Banking under Statements, with several years of history.
- Chequing statements show Date, Description, Withdrawals ($), Deposits ($) and Balance ($), with a running balance on each line.
- Dates are printed as abbreviated month and day (for example Jan 15), with the year implied by the statement period.
- Descriptions use labels such as POINT OF SALE PURCHASE, E-TRANSFER, INTERNET BILL PAY and ACCOUNT FEE, often with the merchant on the same or following line.
- CIBC Online Banking also exports recent transactions as CSV, OFX, QFX or QBO.

Frequently asked
Is the merchant line kept with its transaction?
Yes. The merchant and reference lines are merged into the description of the same row, so the row count equals the statement's.
Can I combine twelve CIBC monthly statements into one Excel file?
Yes. Upload them together; each is balance-checked separately and the export carries full dates so the combined file sorts correctly.
Which format for QuickBooks or Sage?
QBO for QuickBooks, OFX or CSV for Sage and most other tools. All exports come from the same verified data.
