Convert Commonwealth Bank statements to Excel
The Value Date and card-number lines under each purchase are read as extra transactions by generic tools, and the DR suffix on overdrawn balances is read as text so the balance column becomes unusable. Day-first dates are also silently misread by US-default spreadsheets.

About Commonwealth Bank statement PDFs
- CommBank statements are downloaded as PDF from NetBank or the CommBank app under Statements, with up to seven years of history.
- Transaction statements use Date, Transaction, Debit, Credit and Balance columns, with a running balance on each line and a Balance brought forward at the top.
- Dates are in Australian day-first format (DD Mon), and card purchases often include a Value Date line and the card number ending beneath the merchant name.
- Overdrawn balances are marked with DR after the amount, and credit balances may be marked CR.
- NetBank also exports transactions as CSV, OFX or QIF for recent periods, but archived periods are PDF only.

Frequently asked
Are DR balances exported as negative numbers?
Yes. DR is converted to a negative balance and CR to positive, and the running-balance check confirms the sign on every page.
Is the Value Date kept?
Yes. It is extracted into its own column alongside the posting date, and the card-number line is merged into the description.
Which export for Xero or MYOB?
OFX or CSV for Xero, CSV or OFX for MYOB, and QBO for QuickBooks. All come from the same balance-checked data.
