Convert Westpac statements to Excel
Westpac descriptions frequently wrap and include BPAY biller codes and reference numbers that generic converters mistake for amounts. Two-digit years in day-first dates compound the problem, so 03/04/24 ends up as March 4 in a US-default spreadsheet.

About Westpac statement PDFs
- Westpac statements are downloaded as PDF from Westpac Online Banking or the app under Statements, with a multi-year archive.
- Statements show Date, Transaction Description, Debit, Credit and Balance columns, with a running balance on each line and an Opening and Closing balance for the period.
- Dates are day-first (DD/MM/YY), and card purchases carry descriptions such as DEBIT CARD PURCHASE or EFTPOS followed by the merchant and location.
- Direct debits, BPAY payments and Osko transfers are labelled as such in the description, often with a reference line.
- Westpac Online Banking also exports recent transactions as CSV, OFX, QIF and MYOB formats.

Frequently asked
Will BPAY references be kept out of the amount columns?
Yes. Amounts are read from the Debit and Credit columns only, and reference numbers stay in the description. The balance check confirms every page.
Do dates come out correctly in Excel?
Yes. Dates are written as true date values with the full year, so they display and sort correctly on any regional setting.
Can I convert a scanned Westpac statement?
Yes. OCR is applied to scans and photos, and the running-balance check flags misread digits before you export.
